The COVID-19 pandemic has spread globally, leading to a high demand for protective materials such as masks, especially surgical masks and high-protection masks like N95 and KN95, which are in short supply. The supply bottleneck of meltblown fabric, which is upstream in mask production, has become a significant factor limiting the growth of mask production capacity in the short term. The core component of the meltblown production equipment is the spinneret plate, which has many spinneret holes for the melt to pass through. Its production and processing are crucial, as they relate to the production efficiency and quality of the meltblown fabric. In these extraordinary times, it has become particularly important to provide spinneret plates that meet the production needs of high-protection mask meltblown fabric in a timely manner to meltblown fabric equipment manufacturers. Currently, conventional electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines face several issues in processing spinneret holes, such as poor surface roughness, low dimensional consistency, and non-circular hole shapes. To address these issues, our company has mobilized all resources, with technicians working day and night to overcome challenges. Based on the existing precision EDM machines for air film hole processing, we have developed a precision EDM machine for processing spinneret plates for meltblown fabric. Its features meet the requirements for spinneret hole diameters of Φ0.1-0.3mm, a depth-to-diameter ratio of 15:1, position accuracy of ±5μm, processing accuracy of ±3μm, and a taper angle range of 0~2° with precision requirements. The length of the processed spinneret plates can reach 1.6 meters or even longer, solving the high-quality processing challenges of spinneret plate molds for our customers.
